The GTR’s wide track 5-spoke wheels with Bridgestone tyres provide excellent road grip, even during critical cornering speeds. These are the most durable and stable racing tyres that Bridgestone has produced, and are ideal for wet weather conditions. The GTR’s dry climate-specific tyres, developed with the aid of the F1 team, create a unique driving experience with fantastic rolling resistance and fuel consumption. The interior of the GTR is based on the Ultimate Aero carbon-fibre design, which is both light and strong. Just inside the door is a space designed to provide the driver with excellent sitting position for racing.

The highly developed 4-way electronically-controlled suspension and safety bucket complete the “GTR”-version. The highest level of safety is achieved with the fully-integrated HANS device. Other safety equipment includes an anti-vibration headrest, emergency flotation device, fire extinguisher, rollcage and racing harness. The GTR development team at McLaren have been working with the FIA to deliver the necessary homologation process for the car. Thus, the GTR was the first car ever to be fully homologated for the FIA. The GTR also has both a battery and engine sensors, which monitor the car’s battery charge and performance. The data will be transmitted to a central computer, which then allows the car to be remotely controlled.

to be fair, real racing has never been the issue. but for some reason all the real racing i have done is in a real life car. never a garage or a windtunnel. the main issue is that there are very few supercars/hypercars in the world. and they are all for track use or even rally use. so in this case, theres not that many tracks that you can test the aero on.
they are called real racing classes. and they are racing classes for ordinary people. they are not for the rich and powerful, who can have their own track. they are there for everyone. and its not just about speed, its about safety too.
chris rado showed off his new awd scion tc at the unveiling of the new world rally championship car. this car is quite a bit smaller than the toyota yaris, but it still has a turbocharged three-cylinder engine. and its a homologation special built by toyota to make sure its latest world rally championship car could go racing.
the route we chose was to be the rally of new zealand. this is new zealands number one racing event and they have one of the best support programs in the world. the roads are safe, the terrain is diverse and they have a real sense of the speed when you race on a track at speeds in excess of 100mph. the event is held at the red bull ring in austria, which is a track we love to do laps around in our peugeot 208 t16, but it didnt fit our needs for this project. we wanted a course with a real sense of speed and challenge. the rally of new zealand fitted that bill.
we chose the racey-feeling toyota gr yaris for this project because we wanted to see what it would be like to drive one of the most modern rally cars in the world. it has a very fast car mode and we wanted to see how it would do in a rallycross type situation.
