[h] bartik, a graduate student in mathematics.” this is the source of the idea that bartik was the first programmer. it appears in chapter 2 of the innovators, where isaacson makes the error by quoting information from the present-day encyclopedia britannica. this information is erroneous, as the encyclopedia britannica was not yet published in 1945.
