The only bad thing about this movie is that youhaven’t had an adult experience in the last 40 years. This is a grown up comedy and it’sglorious.
Burbs is such an un-nerving film. You can’t help but laugh. It’s RENT meets 80’s sitcom. Ifyou are over 35 (when the film came out) and do have an instinct for humor, then youwill love this funny little film. You’ll love all the 80’s nostalgia and the humourwrought in this. It’s that kind of comedy that made the 80’s so great. OpeningScene: Tom Hanks and Carrie Fisher sitting in the kitchen together. They are about five,kids or high school kids and they are about to get the best babysitter of therelaxing. Tom Hanks looks over and notices his son’s baby walker sitting on the counterand he is immediately in agreement. Carrie Fisher has a look on her face like she’sput you in a trap. You get a kind of foreboding from her. Enter the little boy running intokids room. He smiles and gives a grunt as if to let you know he is finally on hisown. We see a bunch of toys moving around and a couple watches TV. The movie cutsto an alternate scene. De now it’s a different set and another child is running intothe room. Bruce Dern walks in and then it changes again. he is now cleaning the kitchen.
