SPAN Configurator is the synthesis and stateful-lookahead traffic delivery protocol for binding Ethernet-based switches.
What does SPAN mean?
SPAN Network is a networking technology that allows the complete aggregated translation of individual Ethernet ports to Ethernet links. This is accomplished via the use of a software-defined network (SDN) platform that deploys metadata to track both the source-destination traffic flow and the time-synchronized spans. In traditional Ethernet networks, traffic flows from the source port to the destination port via individual Ethernet links in either a direction.
SPAN TCP ping
In a SPAN PortConfigurator based SPAN, TCP ping commands target the destination port and traverses the Ethernet link segments between the source and destination port.
The basic SPAN command
The SPAN command consists of a source host (PHY) port identifier, destination host (PHY) port identifier, the SPAN packet contents (binary data), a SPAN packet sequence number, a source host MAC address and a destination host MAC address. A length field consists of two (2) octet values, L, denoting the total number of bytes in the packet and H, representing the total length of the header field.
