I’ve been doing testing on an old Compaq l380 with LME5500 chipset. The Compaq l380 had two ports which were serially connected. The LME5500 itself has a USB host and a USB serial port built in. The interesting thing was that I could have these two ports connected at the same time, but one of them wouldn’t show up in lspci or lsusb. The problem was that when I connected one of these ports, the link light went on but nothing happened. If I pulled the line up, the link light turned off.
I purchased this from a local electronics house so I can not tell you any specs on it. This device seems to be a serial device with a PC parallel port on the back of it. When the device is plugged in it lights up indicating a serial port and the pinout of the serial port is as follows, TX=31, RX= 32 TX
and the serial port endpoints are 9, 10, 11, and 12. A
The reason I bought it is to see what kind of code will work with it. It certainly seems that none do. I have done many tests with the serial port and there is an issue with USB only to Serial drivers that there is zero error codes returned from the reciver since when a character is received it sends an empty string. After I bought it, I noticed that if the serial port is not polled before starting new transaction, the serial port won’t work, and must be polled at least 50 times before data is picked up. One of the reason could be very short-to-mature state. As I test the code on serial board, I found the problem is pin 17 to 20 is in short-to-mature state. Using scope, I can see it has low and high impedance state for a short period of time. By the way, the serial board is a Rx only board, and should work perfectly on a Tx only, but not working yet.
