as an example of the power of the new environment, i created the video below using the blocks above. the sound quality is astonishing, there is no need for any editing or additional plug-ins and you can sequence the sequenceable modular environment in realtime. i did this in a few hours using only the blocks.

the blocks are in the reaktor library and allow you to experiment with a lot of great sounds. they are really easy to use. you can load any of them using the drop down menu in the top right of the blocks panel or using the “load preset” button in the main panel.

also, there are some wonderful samples and sound fxs included in the blocks folder. the use of the sound fxs is very simple. just load the sample and use the fxs in the blocks panel. the sample included in the blocks folder is called reaktorfx-blocks.wav.

the best thing about blocks is that it lets you create your own modules. if youve got an idea of how a synth works you can write a module in reaktor itself and give it a name. then you can browse through the collection of available modules, and load them into blocks. the design tool looks basic, but its not hard to get started with. now lets take the example of a standard synth module. it has two inputs, two outputs, with an envelope and a modulator. the first thing to do is to set the module type, and the type of modules you will be using: in this case im using a standard oscillator module. we also set the parameters for the module. the values can be entered in the graphical interface or copied into the audio or text boxes. the parameters are: low frequency, high frequency, threshold, envelope, midi cc, modulation and gate. once set, we press the button create module and then we can then add the module to our synth in the structure view.

a modular synth has always been limited by its physical size. with modular synthesizers, you have to come up with something to cover the complete surface of the table, and the space inside the case. this is why modular synths are expensive, not because of their value, but because the size of their case makes them unwieldy to carry around. with the modular synth, the software controls the interface, and not the hardware. but with the blocks system, you can have the interface and the hardware in the same place. the hardware is a system that is often used by audio professionals, and they can make any of their own modules as they see fit. the software is the same interface that we all use, and they can be used to connect any module to any of their other modules. it is the same interface, but it can be used for more than just controlling hardware. so the interface is the same, but the modules can be any size, and the controls are easily modified to suit the needs of the user.
