i have just put dragon naturallyspeaking 13 back onto my laptop. the installation went okay, the serial number was accepted, however, when it came to activating the product it doesn’t accept the serial number. i’ve not had any messages telling me that i have run out of installation attempts, just invalid serial number press the back button. rather annoying to say the least. at the moment, i am on the trial version which is working perfectly okay. i’ll just leave the computer on until i can get the matter sorted, then i won’t run out of the five trials that apparently i have.
in addition, dragon 12 now works with common applications and devices. for starters, it comes with full text control and commands for webmail services such as gmail and hotmail. it also recognizes the most frequent commands for the internet explorer, mozilla firefox and google chrome browsers. posting updates to facebook or twitter with simple voice commands is supported, too. finally, the free dragon remote microphone app is available to users with an ios or android device.

finally, there are tasks where using dragon is actually slower or not usable. for example, while it is possible to use voice to move the mouse around the screen with the mouse grid command, its probably much faster for able-bodied users to use a physical mouse. in addition, multi-monitor users will find it challenging to reposition their windows over more than one monitor.
as mentioned above, in the professional version you get five additional languages to use. the other five languages are english, french, german, italian and spanish. these are enough to make dragon a useful tool for general use. there are definitely other languages that could be added. for example, there are a number of arabic dialects, portuguese dialects and more. the more languages you add, the more accurate dragon will be at recognizing your voice. so if you add mandarin, then dragon will be even better at recognizing your voice.
i personally recommend all pilots to buy a dragon naturallyspeaking professional trial, and get a couple of weeks of use and feedback to help determine if it’s right for you. and if you already have a trial, then just make absolutely certain it’s the correct serial number. nuance lists the serial numbers here.
in my opinion, dragon is the best voice-recognition software on the market. and in the best interest of the user, i don’t consider features in isolation, rather i value each feature for what it does in the context of the entire suite of nuance products. this way i can determine which features are most valuable and which ones are just fluff. of course, i’m also big enough to admit that i am not a nuance user, but i did write the only full review of dragon on the market.
at $199.99 this is an expensive product to buy or trial, but if you’re a pilot who is already on the fence, then you might want to give it a go. i’ll be reviewing nuance’s other dragon-related products in the future, and i can assure you that they are all worth buying.
