        Storyline:
        Luzia is a girl who likes her big sister a lot. On her sister’s birthday, Luzia wakes up from a nightmare with a “strange melody” in her head. She leaves her room and goes to the garden, following her sister’s footsteps. Luzia goes through the garden gate and gets into a field. When she opens her eyes, she finds herself in a building. She sees her sister’s corpse. Inside the building there are diverse objects such as dolls, foods, clothes, and etc. There is a note that says “I am sorry” on the door. Luzia reads the note and understands that her sister came to her dreams. In order to come back, Luzia has to go through a dream by riding in a carriage. Her dream is a village of darkness full of horrors. She cannot abandon her sister’s corpse because she has not killed anyone yet. So Luzia goes on with her journey of trying to bring her sister back.

        While it is still a puzzle-platformer with a (wasteful) focus on narrative, I find it would have benefited from more gameplay, more puzzles, and many, many more sections that were shorter and didn’t feature a large, continuous story. The game seems to be a deliberate attempt to hit the “bullet hell” style, and I must say I disagree with that decision. While the game’s structure is ultimately successful, it feels a bit too repetitive.
        Story:
        Luzia’s parents get divorced and she wants to go home. No place is more depressing than her home town. Little do her and her sister know that a parallel world exists… but Luzia’s sister must help her escape.
        Gameplay:
        The game is mostly a visual novel. We begin with the main character in a long, dreary hallway. There are some candles, lights, and organs that lend a soothing, almost tranquil, atmosphere. You have access to a variety of control switches to open doors, make light fixtures glow, and use other in-game devices. Along the way, you have to get through a long series of jumping puzzles and platforming sections, which quickly wear out their welcome. In addition, you have an ability to read text and look at photos. You can even look through other people’s eyes. Basically, you can read secrets.
        Even if you play the game to figure things out, the pace of it wears down quickly. By the end of the first hour, you’re just looking for the game to end.
        It is really easy to get lost in the game, and you have to figure out how to read the world to feel any satisfaction from the journey. The game’s brief story also never explains how Luzia’s sister ended up at another world. Without that, the game still has a decent atmosphere.
        The biggest problem with the game is how utterly redundant it is. The first act of the game is so unimpressive that at the end of it, it doesn’t feel any more satisfying than the opening sequence of another game.
        Art Style:
        The game is solidly designed and has a good art style. My issue is that it is completely unnecessary and not as well done as most other anime game art. It’s simple-looking and, really, I would rather have more emotional and interesting looks. I would have enjoyed something that is a bit darker, flickerier, and less predictable.

        I screened this film for one of my students at the University last week and we both dug it. It’s definitely an unnerving and unnerving portrait of a family living with mental illness.

        Rachelle (Michelle Williams) and her younger sister, Pauline, two inseparable best friends, both struggle with mental illness. Pauline, a college junior, lives in a run-down trailer with her alcoholic mother (Miranda Richardson) while she struggles with her suicidal tendencies. Rachelle meanwhile lives with her loving and more middle-class father (Bill Hader) and adoring mother. She graduates college and the building in which she lives with her father, uncles, and he and his wife along with her beloved pet turtle Frodo, gets repainted as a suburban dream home.

        Michelle Williams is fantastic as Rachelle, playing her with a lonely, distant, and tormented exterior but with a heart of gold underneath. Williams exudes a deep vulnerability and sympathy for Rachelle despite her exterior bitterness. Williams has already earned an Oscar nomination for her terrific work in Blue Valentine, so it’s very encouraging to see Williams holding onto her Academy Award®-baIIIn’t That Something trophy just as well as she did in that movie.

        Bill Hader in real life is another smart, hilarious, charming comedic actor who along with Fred Armisen and Owen Wilson formed the comedy trio the Hader boys. The trio collaborated on SNL, Good Ol’ Fred, which was written by Steven Showalter, a SNL writer who also wrote For Your Consideration and may have written Big Sister. This movie would not exist without the success of Hader’s SNL co-stars Armisen and Wilson, who Hader has worked with before. If you like the duo and their unbridled, loveable, and hysterically funny style of comedy you will like them in this movie, too.

        As for the rest of the supporting cast, Miranda Richardson is a great character actress and a star in and off of screen. And with all due respect to the trailer for The Walking Dead season four, which was actually shown to a handful of audience members in theaters, the zombie apocalypse scenes in this movie are much better.

        This movie is definitely a thought-provoking, thought-producing experience. It seems a little rare for a comedy or drama to get under your skin and stick with you like this one does. That’s
