our quick pdfsharp does not work with.net core but at least ironpdf works on.net core, so im going to be using that one to help my testing. it is available on the nuget package manager. if you are using.net core you will need to use the latest version of ironpdf. you can download the zip from nuget.
well that was quick. i have never had a more basic error in my life. basically, its a syntax error. this happened to be in my.net core application when i called pdfsharp from a view. a class i have no control over (and probably shouldn’t) has public system.type mytype { get; set; } in the file. i have now found a lot of people with this problem, for example here.
ive been told its a bug in pdfsharp, not sure what to do about this one. i found a discussion on the pdfsharp github issues section about this, basically a “psd to pdf” was done but they had to make adjustments so it would work with.net core. basically this is done using a separate assembly you have to load into your core application (as you would if you were using any library for that matter). i havent come across anything about this online yet, there is a discussion on the github issue section.

here is the code that does this. its easy enough and was well documented for me. basically, i loaded the document again, generated a new page using the pdf library to then apply the settings passed in. this actually worked fairly well for me. i could simply set a margin of 300mm, a page height and width of 11in, set the default printer settings and thats it. i didnt even use setcustompapersize because i assumed that it would print out fine regardless. i dont have any issues with it. and if you want to set a default margin of 300mm on some pages for example.

so unfortunately my first stab at ironpdf threw the error ” http error 502.5 – bad gateway ” which was very vague. i first thought theres no api key in there because i didnt have one, but there was. i just didnt realise it was needed and i also had to add a header to my request so i simply forgot to add it. the specific line i added is :
if youve had a project in mind that you know will require html to pdf conversion for building invoices and quotes, then using the pdf kit plugin with your magento 2 framework may be the way to go. but if you are getting into templates for the first time and youre unsure what you are doing, you may be better off using one of the many open source tools available, to keep your setup as simple as possible.
