The GestureWorks hardware, firmware and software operate in close coordination, enabling unprecedented levels of control and precision in 2D and 3D gestures. The time has come for a technology platform that can deliver on the promise of multipoint gesture sensing, high performance, easy integration with the Flash Player, and high levels of precision and control. The GestureWorks project, which has been underway since late 2009, was brought to market in July 2011.
After more than a year of working on, tinkering, trialing, and prototyping, I have been delighted to offer the very first field demonstration and sample apps to the Flash community. At the onset, the GestureWorks platform operates as a 3D gesture controller and video display co-processor for the Flash Player. However, over the course of the project, GestureWorks has matured into a multi-modal, user-engagement platform supporting not just 3D gestures, but multi-touch gestures, 2D gestures, and interactions. There are no plans to stop developing software for other domains that can leverage the capabilities of GestureWorks, and only further development efforts will bear fruit.
To that end, I am pleased to now share with the developer community a first Flash/ActionScript 3.0, multitouch-enabled application for the Flash Player for Microsoft Windows. However, the team has been hard at work on the platform, and GestureWorks supports a wide variety of platforms and frameworks. It is the goal that developers will be able to use GestureWorks in a number of context.
I have also been hard at work on a free package and platform and component to help facilitate the adoption of GestureWorks and to further the adoption of the technology in general, which I will be announcing in late summer 2011.
In this Preface, I am going to highlight a number of key aspects of GestureWorks, and then provide a software reference of the package that I am personally building and donating to the community, for use with the GestureWorks platform. I hope to also emphasize the manner in which GestureWorks can be used to create compelling, innovative new experiences.

HOW TO USE:
The software is arranged in five panels.
The bottom panel has the application’s main navigation areas.
“Tools” brings up a panel with all of the application’s tools.
“Help” will bring up the help application.
The top panel contains all of the items of the application.
The File panel contains a “Open File” and “New File” dialogs.
The Digital Clock contains a calendar which allows you to view the current digital clock date and time.
NOTE:
This manual is based on release 1.1.
The most important part of this application is the Help file. The text of this help file is included in each of the source code files. You can simply print the help file to be referred to as you wish.
Compile and install the SYOIA application to a directory named SYOIA. Your new directory will look like this:
