Tiling is another method of creating a background. The basic idea is to make a tiled image in a square shape. For example, a one-by-one tile of your image would become one image, and a two-by-two tile would become two images, etc. You’d create a background and then arrange the tiles on it.

The woman’s skin was colored using the Dodge and Burn tools. The eyebrows have been filled with white and colored with the Eyeliner brush.
Emojis
With the help of Photoshop’s brush tools, I created many new emojis.
The lips have been colored using the Watercolor and Ink Stencil brushes.

Yes, you can. You can use ln to create the link, i.e.:
ln -s /path/to/original/pointing/link /path/to/new/pointing/link
That makes the link point to the original file, but at the same time, ln will make a new link (with the same target) pointing to the new path.
Note that the target path is of the form: /path/to/original/original/pointing/link, so /path/to/original/pointing/link and /path/to/new/pointing/link are correct targets for ln.
Whether you end up with one link pointing to the original file and another to the new file depends on exactly how the link was originally made. You can force the link to point to the new file with:
ln -sf /path/to/original/pointing/link /path/to/new/pointing/link
