      What’s new in Bloody Trapland 2: Curiosity:

        #2 – “Deadly Stash”

        The cover, and what I can tell from it, features a pretty okay to good looking mock-up of the cover there, but one of the most interesting aspects of the book is the font choices. The story’s writer, James Kochalka, is mainly known for his 21 Books and other strips like “Jesus, Mary, and Larry”, but this is the first time I’ve heard of him. The type he’s chosen is the “Brooklyn Courier” which is probably a pretty common and basic job file font, but not many people seem to write in it. I, for one, wouldn’t pick it; I don’t think an elegant 12 point font would work very well for this story.

        Kochalka’s handwriting is surprisingly good, considering the typeface choice. The story starts out with a splash page, and then introduces Strange Headaches, he starts off with a delightful table of contents, and finishes with a nice introduction in which he talks about his inspirations.

        The story is relatively straightforward; despite the typeface and the fact that it’s written in a rather pedestrian but realistic font, I feel like it manages to play more along these lines of being funny rather than the “hilarious” that’s usually the goal. Kochalka’s storytelling is a wonderful thing, and one that has remained relatively consistent throughout his career, so that these little faux genre books don’t fall into too much of the mundane. The set up for all the jokes are very clever as well, one of which is that Barefoot Bet against a family of trust fund sons of privilege who has to rely on her drag racing skills to get out of trouble. Unlike a book like this, it’s not necessary to pick out each joke to get the whole point of the collection of stories, and that makes it a much less intimidating prospect than if it was themed around one gag. The result is that you get a good variety of jokes and pretty good storytelling.

        James Kochalka has, in typical Kochalka fashion, decided to follow up his 2009 collection, “Run for It!” with another of his longer stories, but this one goes from grey to real life, as well as to the present. Beside the stand-alone jokes, there are a few other features that

        Arms in the Dark is a third-person survival action game that takes place in the never-ending night of the Arctic.

        You have been selected for your skills, your personal and professional experience and for your individual and peculiar way of looking at things. You are the best of the best and were chosen to carry out special missions.

        You will arrive to a strange world of the Arctic. Here you will have to complete special tasks. The other participants are just like you – a specialised and highly-skilled professional crew, people that have personally faced the special challenges of the Arctic and have spent their lives there.

        You will have to lead them through these challenges. In difficult and dangerous conditions. A vast darkness-strange land full of dark rocks, dangerous animals, blind white giants of Ice and their nastiest inhabitants-the dark creatures that come out of the darkness.         The primary action of the game is survival. You will be the arctic survivor. Alone, on an improvised ship, you will have to navigate the endless Arctic night and overcome the challenges. You will have to put your survival skills to the test and repel a vicious and ill-prepared enemies.

        Survive the night. Destroy all of the enemies that come your way, repel all of the dark creatures.

        Survive the cold. You will live in an uninhabited, frozen world, so you will have to use all of your resources to find a shelter that will protect you from the devastating cold.
