Raster Graphics
AutoCAD Free Download supports raster graphics, both vector and raster, through the use of various drawing elements. The area of the drawing is divided into several different “scales” for raster graphics, which are the size of the image as displayed in the drawing canvas, not the actual size of the image. Raster graphics display directly onto the drawing canvas, and appear in the lower left corner of the drawing, but cannot be edited. They are useful for drawing images of company logos, or company seals, which may be used on brochures or in other marketing materials.

Raster images can also be placed in the document by selecting the insertion option on the Insert menu. However, the raster image has no space for editing. There are also no raster image tools in AutoCAD such as cropping, rotating, or scaling. The drawing area is dedicated to vector graphics, which are editable, scalable, and can be easily moved around. Raster graphics can be either imported or drawn directly. Any raster graphics that were imported to the drawing can be automatically “converted” to a vector format, so that any changes to the imported image are reflected in the current drawing.

The formats of raster images used in AutoCAD are similar to those used in other applications and supported by all Windows operating systems. Currently supported file formats include the following:

The toolbox for the raster image editor can be found in the Tools menu. The application does not support masking or selection of areas of a raster image. Editing is limited to rotating, scaling, and cropping. The cropping can be of a single raster image. Raster images can be saved in various raster and vector formats.

Selecting the image in the dialog box opens the image in the background. This window can be hidden from the workspace if desired.
