de bellis magistrorum militum is a set of rules published by wargames research group in 2002. it can be considered an update of the rules in de bellis antiquitatis. the main differences are in the general section in which the available units have been updated to reflect the expansion. it also has a few new units for the dba system. the rules of war section has been overhauled, to remove the cumbersome and non-mathematical system previously used. dba uses a simple and intuitive system of adding or subtracting points to and from the attacking force and the defending force. this system means that a skilled player can find a quick win, but a novice player is likely to get in a muddle and get beaten.

de bellis antiquitatis is a fast playing, easy to learn miniatures wargame. most games are resolved in less than an hour, allowing one to play several games each meeting. we have also had the odd campaign. new players to the system are welcome: we will have you up to speed in no time.
