compared to the previous version, the recent releases of samplemodeling the flutes have enabled us to go further away from a single, simple instrument model and bring it closer to a large collection of instruments, each one with its own unique timbre and articulation. one can easily program the string library as a real ensemble, thanks to the tuning and dynamic controls available.
btw the name of the project and of the string library is connected to the author’s name (jacob scheuermann). well, that’s a lot of of continuity that a worldwide network of collaborative research cannot afford to let slip. we are just a bunch of students from lawrence university (waukesha, wi) and the mediheft virtual studio of mediheft gmbh

the excellent release 1.0 of samplemodeling the flutes was published on the 16th of march. so far the playing experience was “rough” and aggressive, some notes sounded too sharp, some too flat, some just a bit off. this is a known limit of dsp-based string libraries, related to non-linearity of the algorithms and the non-linearity of a violin. we’ve arrived at the solution. take a look at the new release. it’s totally different. now the tone is realistic!
the new release version 1.1 of samplemodeling the flutes is only days away. an extended set of 60 plus new strings is included. the original idea of “volume freedom” was to let the user fully control the volume of the ensemble. this is crucial for orchestral music. but the technique developed for that is not suitable for jazz or other styles. the player needs to have its hands on the bow, for instance for a solo. samplemodeling the flutes is still easily adaptable to any style, but this technique is required for the jazz crowd.
