although it is possible to make an airtight home, it is harder than it looks. in fact, it is possible to maintain good indoor air quality inside even a home with its window and doors closed. however, dust, airborne bacteria and other particles, and fumes move easily from the outdoors through cracks, joints, windows, and doors. although airtight homes and homes built in recent years seem to be protected from these problems, they are at a greater risk for health problems from contaminants, such as lead, that can move indoors from the outdoor air.
