shazna would release single best in 2014, and it would once again be a hit! while many of the songs on the album aren’t as memorable, “one step closer” and “the one i love” were great singles that would rank first and second on the oricon chart. the group would go on hiatus once again in 2016.
shazna would go on hiatus once again in 2017, but in 2018, the band would be announced to be reforming in september. the band would release the single, i will never let go, as well as announce their new album, kiss the sky.
they’ve released eight singles since the reunion, with their most recent single, play with me, hitting number one on the oricon chart. the group just released a new single, don’t forget, and will have a new album out in march 2019.
the first single released by shazna was shazna as the single best in may 1996. it was a special limited edition released in the us only, with a different cover and different track list. the single was promoted in the us with a two-week run on the billboard hot 100 singles chart. the b-side was shaznas cover of kiss’s “cold gin” for the band’s album “alive iii.” the single has sold a total of 242,000 copies, making it shazna’s first single to reach the oricon singles chart. in 1998, the band would release love me tender as the band’s second single. the b-side was a cover of george jones’ “white lightning,” while the title track was a cover of the beatles “sgt. pepper’s lonely hearts club band”. the single has sold a total of 567,000 copies, making it shazna’s second best-selling single. in 1999, the band would release their first major label single, melty love. the single was used for one of the ending themes for the television program asahi national broadcasting’s beat takeshi no tv tackle. the single would debut on the oricon chart at #6 and climb its way to #2, staying on the chart for a total of twenty four weeks. the single has sold a total of 1,050,000 copies, making it shazna’s third best-selling single.
the crayon shin-chan franchise is one that has inspired me and many others to want to do what they do! in the case of shazna, they are known for their striking outfits, their passion, and most of all, for their originality. an example of this is their first single, eternal heart. this single makes use of a lot of instruments, and it was the single that introduced a lot of people to the group. the original members, izam, aoi, and niy, would continue on with this sound to their kamikaze kaitou jeanne single. they would also release two more singles, hana gurei and kaiten kaitou jeanne. for those of you who have been following my single rankings, you may notice that i have not listed shazna yet! that is because, i have not listed any of their singles yet!
when i started the best of visual kei: ranking the original singles i wanted to do something that would fit into the time period of the 90s, while also being accessible to fans of the visual kei scene. so, it makes sense that i would start the ranking off with the first single from the first singles that i have ranked, eternal heart. shazna is known for their unique sound, and it is a sound that has been seen by many others! one of my favorite song from shazna is their second single, hana gurei. i love the way they mix the typical visual kei sound with heavier music and more guitar riffs. the way that they do this gives their songs a unique sound!
if i could take izumis advice, i would make more bold choices. playing it safe is safe, but sometimes its better to take a risk and take your chance. he may have been a great producer, but he was also a great lyricist. i think that was one of his best qualities as a producer.
