What can BFilter do for you:
BFilter is a server-side proxy that detects ads in real time, and automatically blocks them, depending on the contents of the page. You no longer have to sit and block ads by hand, BFilter does it for you. BFilter handles the vast majority of ads, including pop-under ads, pop-up ads, pop-over ads, pop-over ads, pop-to-top ads, sticky ads, fast moving ads, image ads, flash ads and all in-text ads. When you visit a page containing content that BFilter detects as an ad, it will automatically blacklists that page. You don’t have to do anything.
How does it work:
As the name suggests, BFilter blocks ad-like content using heuristics that detect only the most common ads. It does not attempt to detect every single kind of ad, because it is no longer practical to do so. Moreover, if BFilter detects ads in a page, it will only block them. It does not attempt to detect ads on the page that are not being displayed, such as ads within an iframe that are not being displayed. You can get more details on the heuristics used by BFilter here.
How to configure it:
– Head to BFilter settings page:
– Type into the URL text box and press the “search” button
– Under the banner that says “The page you are looking for was not found”, click the “Done” button (top right)
– Under the banner that says “Didn’t find what you were looking for?” click the “Yes” button (top right)
– Under the banner that says “The address was invalid”, click the “Delete” button (top right)
– Under the banner that says “Delete the new page”, click the “Delete” button (top right)
– Under the banner that says “Start configuring the proxies”, click the “Setup” button (top right)
– Under the banner that says “Basic settings”, click the “New Proxy” button (top right)
– Enter the IP address of the computer where BFilter is running, the port number and the username and password that you would like to use for the proxy.

BFilter is a small, portable, open-source, cross-platform and multi-functional web filtering application that can easily be installed, uninstalled and used to protect your children and family from adult oriented websites.
BFilter Features:

– option to download a text/binary file that describes the block list that is applied to web access;

This tool is a companion tool for the more mature, powerful web filter (BFProtect) by Adam LaFave. BFilter will scan a local directory for files matching the regular expression specified in the block list. These matches are cached and removed when the program is shut down.
To update the block list simply download the current list using the synchronize option. The program will automatically update the cache.
To refresh the list from the Internet, use the blocklist option to force a download of the latest block list, or do a full download/scan if you prefer.
